The Escola Diáspora [Diaspora School] is a free education center in the field of creativity. It offers filmmaking, visual arts and creative management courses.
The education programs are based on interdisciplinary methodologies, with theoretical and practical course modules. Their main goal is to develop the artistic skills and the critical thinking of the students.

The course will go into the history of the author Carolina Maria de Jesus (1914-1977), from Minas Gerais, Brazil: aspects of her life, her childhood in Sacramento, her peregrination through country cities in the states of Minas Gerais and São Paulo, her domestic work, her arrival in São Paulo, her life as a resident of the Canindé Favela, her success in the publishing world with the publication of her books, notably “Quarto de despejo: diário de uma favelada” [Child of the Dark: The Diary of Carolina Maria de Jesus].

Through the film series titled “Trilogia do Corpo” [The Body Trilogy] by filmmaker Emílio Domingos, the course will approach research methods, treatment, screenwriting, and the filmmaking process in documentary. In the course, general aspects, methods and the filmmaking processes of the documentaries “A Batalha do Passinho” [The Passinho Battle], “Deixa Na Régua” [Fresh Cutz] and “Favela É Moda” [Favela Is Fashion] will be discussed.
